Obituary of Martha Clara Schmidt

MARTHA CLARA SCHMIDT (nee Ritter) March 19, 1933 September 28, 2012 Martha, late of Earl Grey, SK, passed away suddenly on Friday, September 28, 2012 at the age of 79 years. Predeceased by her parents Caroline (nee Maier) and John Ritter and brother Walter Ritter. Martha is survived by her loving husband of 60 years, Alfred Schmidt; sons Brian (Ingeborg) Schmidt and their children Kourtney Dixon (Tony) and their daughters Melissa, Emily and Kallie, Jessica Nixon (Danny) and daughter Arowyn, Quinton and Logan, Daniel (Donna) Schmidt and their son Dayen, Perry (Deb) Schmidt and their sons Braden, Riley and Jordan; and daughter Renee Schmidt. Martha is also survived by her siblings Paul (Violet) Ritter, Esther (Henry) Mohr, Herman (Jeanne) Ritter, Ruth Smith, Joyce Ritter, Norman (Dianna) Ritter and sister-in-law Leona; as well as numerous extended family and friends. Martha grew up on the family farm in the Southey district, helping her folks working on the farm, enjoying her siblings, working diligently on academics and relishing school softball. She completed her elementary and high school education at Robert Southey School then took an office business course at Balfour College in Regina. Martha worked at Regina Motor Products before her marriage to Alfred and during this time took pride in her work and her small room and board. Throughout her life, she enjoyed continuous learning in Bible and devotional studies. Martha was active in the Evangelical Lutheran Womens League where she supported missionary work providing relief packages. Mom loved music, worship and communing with her Lord, knitting, gardening, quilting, planting trees, nature, crafts, canning and homemaking. She took joy in her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was eagerly anticipating two new grandchildren expected in the months to come. Visitation will take place at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 from 6:00 8:00 p.m. Celebration of Life will be held at Christ Lutheran Church, Earl Grey, SK on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 at 3:00 p.m. with Pastor Rick Hordern and Intern Pastor Janice Whitelock officiating. Interment to follow at Fairy Hill West Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 279 3rd Avenue North, Saskatoon, SK, S7K 2H8.
