Obituary of Margaret Helen Spicer

SPICER - Margaret Helen Gass (Ball) Spicer passed away peacefully with family at her side on Thursday, July 17, 2008 at the age of 92 years. Born April 4, 1916 to Sarah and John Ball in Dauphin, MB, she was the second youngest of eight children. She is predeceased by her two sisters; five brothers; first husband, Jim Gass (1974); and second husband, Bill Spicer (2003). She will be lovingly remembered by her children: David (Pamela) Gass; Regina, Donald (Bonny) Gass, Calgary; Jayne (Walter) Rhead, Regina; her grandchildren: Diana Gass, Vancouver; Steven Gass, Regina; Joanna (Todd) Markwart, Calgary; Paula (Darryl) Kashton, Regina; Brett (Kendra) Gass, Minnesota; Gina (Dave) Hopper, Calgary; Jillian, Peter, Laura, Alexandra, and Carolyn Rhead, Regina; her great-grandchildren: Tyler and Sarah Markwart, Calgary; Hannah and Ellen Gass, Minnesota; Paige and Creighton Hopper, Calgary; Eric Kashton, Regina; stepchildren: John (Gloria) Spicer, Whitehorse; Margot (Bob) Low, Regina; step-grandchildren, Stewart (Miranda) Low, Saskatoon; Stephen Low, Toronto; Alex (Chelsea) Low; and step-great-granddaughter, Isabelle Low, Regina. Mom was a kind, proud, and loving person who enjoyed life to the fullest. Shopping with grandchildren, being around her great-grandchildren, golfing at the Wascana Golf Course, wintering in California, summering at her Echo Lake cottage near Fort Qu'Appelle, and playing bridge with "the girls, all brought her great joy. She gave freely of her time as a volunteer for breast cancer, service organizations and was a charter member of Lakeview United Church. She was loved dearly and will be missed by many. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Regina General Hospital ICU who made her last few days comfortable and the staff and residents at Marian Chateau where she had resided for the last five years for their care and friendship. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Rev. Dr. Robert A. Kitchen officiating. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Allan Blair Cancer Centre, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina S4T 1A5 or a charity of choice.
