Obituary of Lillian Jean Findlay

FINDLAY, L. JEAN (nee McMillan) Born May 4, 1924, of Regina, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family, on July 30, 2008, at the age of 84. She was predeceased by her loving husband of almost 60 years, Fred, in May of this year. She is survived by her children Barbara (Sheila Gilhooly), of Vancouver BC, Duncan (Nora), of Regina, Grant (Ronalee) of Regina, and Sheila of Nanaimo BC; and her beloved grandchildren Heather, Sheena, Brock, Robbie, Ben, Molly-Rae, MacMillan ("Mac), Kate, and honorary grandson Mauricio Carvajal; and by Jack McNeil (Elinor) of Regina, who was raised as a brother to Jean. She was also predeceased by her parents, Ettie and George McMillan; by her brothers Frank and Grant and sister Ann; and by her daughter Katherine and son-in-law Larry. Jean was born in Kenville, MB and moved to Regina as a teenager. She met and married Fred on July 24, 1948. They celebrated their "59 and Holding Anniversary last year. Jean spent the early years of her marriage raising her five children, something she did with joy and fun. The Findlay beach cottage at Katepwa Lake was the family's summer home, and Jean regularly made Sunday dinner for 20 or 25 people who considered the cottage as second home. After her children were in school, Jean went back to work and ended her career as executive secretary at Regina General Hospital. Jean enjoyed life. Her passion and her pride was her family, especially her grandchildren. She loved people, and was generous with her spirit, her chowder, and her cinnamon buns to anyone who needed a hand. She and Fred enjoyed tennis, bridge (and bridge cruises), and their annual vacation in Hawaii. Her church was a central part of her life, and she loved Freedom 55ers at First Presbyterian. Funeral Service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church, 2170 Albert Street, Regina, on Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 1:00 p.m., with the Reverend Jean Morris officiating. As an expression of sympathy, those wishing to remember Jean may make a donation to the Regina Palliative Care Inc., 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Saskatchewan S4T 1A5. Flowers are gratefully declined. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
