Obituary of George Basil Karahalios

KARAHALIOS - George passed away peacefully on August 13, 2008. Born on December 28, 1929 in Kastri, Kynourias, Greece, he immigrated to Regina in 1955. George was a people person and enjoyed working in the food and hospitality industry, notably the La Salle Hotel, Sherwood House, and Harvest Eating House where he kept the patrons entertained with his endless repertoire of jokes and stories. He was predeceased by his parents Vasilios and Maria (Girgulis) and his wife Marty and will be lovingly remembered by his son Basil, grandsons Tyrell and Zechariah, his partner Merrilyn Dubreuil, all of Regina, sister Aspasia (Nick) Roumeliotis of Astros, Greece, brother Lyle (Cassandra) Karahalios, sister Lamprene (Jim) Kokonas, sister Irene (Louis) Perentes, all of Regina, sister-in-law Lorelei Dubreuil of Wetaskiwin, Alberta, brothers-in-law Tony and Leighton Dubreuil of Hamilton, Ontario, and several uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and dear friends in North America, Australia, and Greece. For close to four decades, George enjoyed his annual trips to Greece. He would return every year in the fall in time for the hunting season. Anyone who knew George will remember how much he loved to make people smile and laugh and his long history of playing practical jokes. Prayers will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2008 at 7:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK. Funeral service will be held on Monday, August 18, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. in Saint Paul's Greek Orthodox Church, 3000 Argyle Road, Regina, SK, with Rev. Fr. Spiridon Vandoros officiating. Interment to follow in Regina Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a charity of your choice.
