Obituary of Isabel Corbett Darke

DARKE - Isabel C. (Corbett) Our dearly loved mother passed away on Saturday, August 16, 2008 at the age of 87, after a lengthy illness. Isabel was predeceased by her dearly beloved husband Trevlyn Victor and son Trevor Charles (Skip), her parents Dr. Frederick Corbett and Mabel MacLeod Corbett, brother Frederick Corbett, sister Dorothy Boulter. She is survived by her son Frank (Lia), Pasqua Lake, daughters Carolyn Sunquist (Ken), Ottawa, Laurie Johnstone (David), Kelowna, and Joni Darke (Sandy), Regina; as well as ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews. Isabel was born in Regina on March 9, 1921. She attended Lakeview School, Central Collegiate and Ontario Ladies College. Isabel was a devoted member of Knox Metropolitan United Church and served in many different capacities: administration, UCW Friendship Circle, home visitations, fund raising, and fellowship committees. Isabel's lifelong dedication to the church played an important role in developing her spiritual strength, which she graciously shared with family and friends. Isabel took an active role in several Home and School Parent Associations, volunteered with the YM-YWCA Amateur Swim Club, and acted as an electoral officer in municipal, provincial and federal elections. She loved to swim, garden, golf, sew, make crafts, cook and spend time with her friends. Her unprecedented love of the Qu'Appelle Valley was evident every time she reached the top of the valley and a sign of contentment was heard and felt by all those around her. She instilled in all her children, a love and appreciation of the beauty and mystique the Valley offered that has carried forward to the present generation of grand and great-grandchildren. The manner in which Isabel led her life exemplified strength, compassion, kindness, generosity, friendship, courage and grace. She loved life, loved her family, and was well loved. The family would like to thank Marion and Sid Bowles and the caring staff at Country Lane Care Home, Pilot Butte for providing a warm and loving environment for mom's last years. Our thanks also go to Mila, Nancy, Dow, Thelma, Cynthia and Dr. Greg O'Byrne. A service to celebrate Isabel's life will be held at Knox-Metropolitan United Church, 2340 Victoria Avenue with Rev. Dr. Robert A. Kitchen officiating on Friday, August 22, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Flowers most gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations in Isabel's memory to Knox-Metropolitan United Church, B-Say-Tah Foundation Inc., Box 908, Fort Qu'Appelle, Sask. S0G 1S0, or a charity of your choice.
