Obituary of Gillies David McCormick

McCORMICK - On Tuesday, September 23, 2008 Gillies "Gill David McCormick passed away at the age of 95 years. Gill was predeceased by his wife Dorothy on September 8, 1999 and his daughter Brenda on January 20, 2004. He is survived by his brother Glenn (Nettie); his sister Marion Taylor; his sister-in-law May McCormick; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Born in Wapella, SK on October 16, 1912 Gill received both his elementary and secondary education at Moose Jaw. Gill began his 54 year career with SaskTel on June 20, 1930. Gill became SaskTel's General Manager on July 1, 1965 and retired after half a century of service with the corporation. In addition to his responsibilities as General Manager and Deputy Minister of Telephones, Gill was the Executive Development Officer for the Regina Downtown Core Project which included the construction of SaskTel's head office. Gill was a member of the TransCanada Telephone System's Board of Management; a member and Director of the Canadian Telecommunications Carriers Association; President of Telesat Canada; Chairman of the Crown Corporations Committee of the Regina United Way; President of the Telephone Pioneers of America - Saskatchewan Chapter 59 from 1966-67. He was a long time member of the Wascana Country Club where he excelled at golf well into his 90's. Special thanks to the nursing staff and caregivers at Wascana Grace Hospice for their compassionate and loving care of Gill. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, September 27, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in St. Anne R. C. Church, 1701 Cowan Crescent, Regina with Rev. Thomas Nguyen presiding.
