Obituary of Margaret Christina Laslo

Margaret Laslo (nee: Daradidge) July 24, 1912 - October 15, 2008 Margaret Christina Laslo passed away at the Pasqua Hospital with her daughter and son-in-law by her side. A wonderful lady has left us to join her family in heaven. Our hearts are heavy but we are grateful for all the wonderful years that she was with us. Margaret was born July 24, 1912 in Zala, SK (now Arbury) to James and Mary (nee: David) Daradidge. She was only 12 years old when her mother died, and she was the cook and little mother' to the rest of her siblings and would sew dresses and shirts for them to wear to school and headed the Cooking Brigade' when the Threshing Gang came in the fall. Predeceased by her husband James Albert Laslo in 1984, her parents, sisters: Elizabeth Ursulan, Elsie Kayto, and Laverne Allgrove, brothers Jimmy (in infancy), Louie, Albert and Michael. Beloved mother of her only daughter Sylvia (Vincent) Aitken, beloved grandmother to James (Ruby) and Ramona, all of Regina, and much loved Nana Margaret to her great-grandchildren: Kristie (Tim) Toews of Bonnyville, AB, Kayleigh Aitken (Jon) of Nanaimo, BC, Jacob Hebel of Sprague, MB and Mirina of Regina. She is also survived by her many nieces and nephews throughout Canada and Detroit, Michigan, along with her many friends and wonderful neighbours Arnie and Mary Johnson and Phyllis Sztrebula, who were always there for her. Margaret was a very independent lady, and lived in her own house until February 5, 2008 when she had to move into Golden Oaks Care Home. The wonderful care and attention she received from Twila, Veronica, Anita and staff was above and beyond their duty. Her last seven days were spent in the Pasqua Hospital. We would like to thank Mary-Ellen, Connie, Trish and the rest of the wonderful staff of 4A for all their care and compassion shown to Margaret and her family. Margaret was known as the "Hat Lady of Saint Stevens Roman Catholic Church, where she sang in the choir. She was known for her sewing talents in making "something out of nothing during the Second World War years. She made many outfits for weddings and other occasions, and continued to sew aprons for the many Bazaars that were held at the church, right into the 1990's. No one made Hungarian Cream Chicken like mom, and her Cinnamon Buns and Rhubarb pies were the best. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, October 20, 2008 at 10:00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue with Sister Mel Hruska presiding. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, a donation to a charity of your choice in mom's name would be appreciated. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
