Obituary of Helen Tonita

TONITA - Helen Tonita, who embraced life with humanity and passion, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 27, 2008. Born on March 13, 1927 in Flintoft, Saskatchewan, she is predeceased by her husband, Nick Tonita; parents, Costa and Annie Radu; grandchildren Nicole and Curtis Sim and her faithful hearing dog, Merlin. Helen is survived by her devoted daughters, Janet Tonita (Dr. Gordon Moore), Wendy Ronksley (Paul) and Debra Tonita; grandchildren Paul Ronksley (Vanessa) and Ryan Ronksley; sister, Virginia Barkley and brother, Jerry Radu (Alana). Helen's boundless affection and compassion for family and friends taught us to care for others. Her huge heart and outgoing personality drew in everyone she met and fostered many close friendships throughout her life. Helen was blessed with the ability to make everyone feel very special. Her strength of character, spirit, wonderful sense of humour, sharp mind and love of life helped her meet the many challenges she faced in life. Helen will always be in our hearts and when adversity beckons or courage is called for, we will draw strength from her extraordinary example. Helen's daughters wish to acknowledge the exceptional care - physically, medically and emotionally provided by Dr. McMillan, Dr. Konstantynowicz and the Palliative teams at Pasqua Hospital, Regina Wascana Grace Hospice and Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, and thank them for treating their mother with respect, love and dignity. Prayers will be held Friday, October 31, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at St. George Orthodox Cathedral. Funeral service will be held Saturday, November 1, 2008 at 2:00 p.m. St. George Orthodox Cathedral, 2005 Edgar Street, Regina, Saskatchewan., with Fr. Cosmin Sicoe officiating. Following the service, please join the family for a remembrance supper in Helen's honour. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Canadian Cancer Society.
