Obituary of Bernice Hazel Jacoby

JACOBY - Bonnie (Bernice) Hazel passed away peacefully at Helping Hands Care Home on November 15th, 2008 at the age of 87 years. Bonnie was born on July 18th, 1921, at Windthorst, Saskatchewan to parents Doctor Thomas and Mazae Argue. Bonnie was predeceased by her loving husband and best friend of 60 years, Franz, and her sister, Marguerite. She is lovingly remembered by her five sons George, Paul (Rita), Neil (Karen), Ray (Nancy) and John, along with her six grandchildren Stephane, Matthew, Michael and Karen, and Luke and Jane. Bonnie is also survived by her older sister, Isabell. After completing high school in Fillmore, Bonnie went on to attend Regina College and then Normal School receiving her teaching certificate. In 1940 she started teaching at Winmore rural school, south of Gainsborough, before moving to Fillmore where she taught until coming to Regina in 1943. Her next two years were spent teaching at Imperial and Albert schools. Bonnie stayed in touch with her many teaching friends through a group known as the Secret Eight. In 1943 she met Franz, the love of her life. They were married in 1945 and lived 60 wonderful years together in Regina. They shared the happiness of their five sons, grandchildren and many wonderful experiences of travel around the world and in Canada. Bonnie was a member of Lakeview United Church since 1950 where she taught Sunday School and served on various committees. Mom had a long and active life with her greatest interest and love being her family. She was a life member of the Lakeshore Tennis Club, a member of the Regina Golf Club for over 30 years and also a member of the Caledonian Curling Club. Bonnie not only had a passion to participate, but the patience and devotion to teach her children and others the sports she so loved. She was equally passionate as a spectator and a huge fan of the Sheldon-Williams Spartans watching her children and grandchildren participate in many sports for over fifteen years. The many summers of family vacations to tennis tournaments and, many years later, Christmases together in Palm Springs will be cherished by all family and friends who shared these times. The family would like to give special thanks to Doctor Stephen Bester and all the wonderful care givers at Helping Hands Care Home for their loving care and support. A celebration of Bonnies life will be held at Lakeview United Church, 3200 McCallum Avenue, Regina on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 1:30 p.m. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
