Obituary of Richard Albert Kells

KELLS - Richard Albert Kells, late of Regina, formerly of Stoughton, Saskatchewan, passed away on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at the age of 94. He is survived by his loving wife Alma of 60 years and his two sons Wayne (Gail) of Salmon Arm and Wesley (Lorna) of Red Deer and four grandchildren, Andrew (Mary), Alison (Darcy), Andrea, Julie; and one great-grandchild, Nolan. Albert was predeceased by his parents Richard and Emma; his two sisters Olive Thornton and Muriel McLeod; and his three brothers, Gordon, Lawrence, and Mervin. Albert was born on August 22, 1911 and was raised at Heward and spent his working life farming at Stoughton, Saskatchewan. He retired from mixed farming in 1965 and grain farming in 1972. Using hired farm help, he was also able to adjust crops for PFAA and adjust for Municipal Hail Insurance for 28 seasons, until retiring in 1979. He enjoyed the travel and meeting farmers very much. He also served a few years on the Stoughton town council. Albert enjoyed his youth experiences playing baseball, playing goal in hockey, skipping a curling rink, and hours of billiards right up to age 90. He enjoyed socializing over coffee in the town restaurants and the Golden Mile Plaza. In 1965 the family moved to Regina. Albert assisted Alma to deliver Meals on Wheels for many years. In 1989 they moved into Rainbow Towers and then in 1999 they moved into Marian Chateau. In need of extra care for Alma, they moved into a private nursing home in 2002. Memorial Service will be held on Wednesday, August 9, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. If desired, gifts of remembrance may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 2360 - 2nd Avenue, Regina S4R 1A6 or the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan, #301 - 2550 - 12th Avenue, Regina S4P 3X1.
