Obituary of Marlene Steininger

STEININGER - Marlene (nee WOOD) June 4, 1938 - August 5, 2006, wife of devoted husband Fred, passed away on Saturday, losing a 9-year struggle with strokes. A resident of Regina Lutheran Home since 2002, Marlene was predeceased by her father John (1982), mother Anna Wood (2002) and brother-in-law Duane Clark (2005). Marlene is survived by her husband Fred, daughter Nola Steininger (Kevin Skelley), and granddaughters Bronwyn and Gillian Skelley; Jodi Steininger (Calvin Vass) and granddaughters Eliza and Madeline Vass. She is survived by 4 siblings: Shirley Clark, Gary (Betty) Wood, Jim (Marilyn) Wood, Judy (Richard) Taylor and 12 nieces and nephews, her maternal aunt Ida Harris and many cousins. Marlene loved to read. Oh, how she loved to read, especially mysteries! Her passion for reading led her to becoming an elementary school teacher, specializing in reading instruction. A gentle, caring, dedicated teacher, she delighted in the reading success, which her grade 2-4 pupils achieved. As a mother and an educator, she took great pride in the educational achievements of her daughters Nola and Jodi. The family extends its appreciation to Dr. T. Bradel, the caregivers at the Regina Lutheran Home and the three faithful friends who visited her on a regular basis at the Home. A celebration of Marlenes courageous life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel 2136 College Avenue on Thursday August 10, 2006 at 4:00 pm. A private family interment will be held at Riverside Memorial Park .
