Obituary of Don Stankov

DON STANKOV August 10, 1934 to August 10, 2006 It is with great sadness that the family of Don Stankov announces his passing after a lengthy and courageous battle with cancer. As we struggle to accept this huge loss in our lives we want to pay tribute to a man who meant so much to all of us and who leaves us with a legacy of memories that will live on. We will remember our husband, father and Papa in many ways, but always as the person to whom we could turn for guidance and unconditional love. Predeceased by his parents, Mike and Florence Stankov, his father and mother-in-law, George and Mary Blehm, his sister-in-law Ruth Blott and her husband Don Blott. Don leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife of 48 years, Laurie, his daughter and son-in-law, Erin and Dean Kleisinger, and his precious granddaughter Michaela Dawn Kleisinger. He also leaves to mourn his brother Dennis (Jean) Stankov (Fort Saskatchewan, Alta.), brothers-in-law Herb (Irene) Blehm (Regina) and Irv (Stella) Blehm (Saskatoon), nieces Donna (Denis) Yaychuk (Saskatoon) and Deborah (Allan) McNutt (Ladner Delta, BC), nephews Allan (Wendy) Blott (Leader) and Kim (Maria) Blehm (Regina), numerous great nieces and nephews and, many special friends. Deans family was also considered Dons family and he would want us to include them here: Leonard and Carol Kleisinger and their family. Don was born in Truax, Saskatchewan and was educated in Moose Jaw and Regina. He took his accounting from Queens University and University of Saskatchewan while articling at Rooke Thomas (later known as Deloitte, Haskins & Sells), and received his C.A. in 1960 and his F.C.A. in 1989. He left Deloitte as a partner in 1980 and joined Thyssen Mining Construction of Canada, subsequently becoming its President and the President of its U.S. affiliate. He retired in 1992. During his career Don was a member of the Lakeview Lions Club and the Wa Wa Shrine. He served on council of SICA and was active on several boards including CKCK Childrens Fund, Saskatchewan Roughriders $100 Dinner, Canadian Arthritis Society, Group Medical Services and the Board of SaskPower, chairing that Board from 1985 to 1991. Don was a true sportsman who enjoyed the outdoors and especially his time with friends and family at his cabin near Preeceville, Saskatchewan. Hunting was his passion and he traveled the world in that pursuit. A celebration of Dons life will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2006 at 3:30 p.m. at the Theatre Lobby, Conexus Arts Centre. The family will be having a private graveside service. In lieu of flowers the family respectfully requests those so wishing to send donations in Dons memory to Palliative Care, Pasqua Hospital, 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina, Sk., S4T 1A5.
