ETHEL AGNES BOYCE (nee Gillert) January 21, 1918 - October 15, 2012 Ethel Agnes Boyce passed away peacefully with loving family and caregivers by her side on October 15, 2012. Ethel was born on January 21, 1918, the 7th child of 9 to Herman and Barbara Gillert in the McLean District. Ethel was predeceased by her husband Harry Boyce; her parents; siblings Otto (Lee), Elmira (Carl) Silzer, Herman (Alice), Hermina (Minnie) Baker, Gertie (George) Lumb, Henry (Peggy), Edgar (Dorothy) and Fred (Pamela). Ethel trained to be a seamstress and milliner (hatmaker) and went on to sew many elaborate dresses including wedding gowns and hats, some dresses of which were used at Buffalo Days. Ethel was extraordinarily talented when it came to anything artistic. Not only was she adept at painting and drawing, she excelled at woodwork, making and repairing furniture. She also was an accomplished writer, having poetry published in a Canadian Anthology Thoughts for the Millenium? in 1999. Ethel loved the performing arts and was a patron of Globe Theatre in Regina. She also loved to entertain guests and golfing. Ethel owned and operated a caf in Lumsden, where she met her husband Harry Boyce. They married in 1962. After selling her business in Lumsden, she went to work at the Queens Hotel in Regina. Ethel was a caring, compassionate person, who genuinely cared for all those around. She volunteered at the Norman McKenzie Art Gallery and at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in the Veterans ward. She drove the old? people to their appointments while she was already herself in her late 70s early 80s. She spent daily time on call when her neighbor was ailing, and was Harrys devoted caregiver until his death. After coming to live in the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, she managed to make the staff on 2-6 giggle regularly with her playful wit and humour. A gathering of family and friends to share memories of Ethels well lived life will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, SK on Friday, October 19, 2012 at 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in memoriam may be made to Hospitals of Regina Foundation, Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Extended Care - Recreation Therapy Equipment, PO Box 1697, Regina, SK, S4P 3C6 or a charity of your choice.
