Obituary of Alfred Joseph Burch

Burch, Alfred Joseph (Joe) passed away September 7th, 2006 at Pasqua Hospital, Regina. Joe was born August 26, 1925 in Highgate, Ontario and grew up in the Highgate-Ridgetown area. He became a pilot with the RCAF during World War II. In 1943, he married Rose-Marie (Peggy) Gammage and they had three children - Louise (Philip) of Lumsden, Roy (Pat) of Fergus, ON and John (Lynn) of Grand Forks, BC. After the war, Joe had several occupations but returned to the RCAF as an air traffic controller. He left the service in 1960. After working in the parking industry in Detroit for several years Joe returned to his passion of flying and flew mostly in Canadas north until he and Peggy settled in the Edmonton area. They remained there until 1999 when they resettled in Lumsden to be closer to their daughter. Joes second passion was fishing. He was active in his church most of his life. He had a good heart and was always willing to offer help. His wife Peggy predeceased Joe in 2000. He is survived by his children; five grandchildren; two great- grandchildren; his second wife, Alice and her children Helen, Elizabeth (James) Archibald and their three children. Cremation. A celebration of life for Joe will be held September 23rd at 2:00 p.m. at the Lumsden Legion Hall. Interment in Highgate, Ontario at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined.
