Obituary of Ethel Eveline Jenkins

JENKINS - Ethel Eveline Jenkins (Maguire), born and grew up in Saskatoon. An accomplished musician and violinist, she attended the University of Saskatchewan one year after which she attended the Toronto Conservatory of Music for two years on scholarship and then went to London, England for further study with Carl Flesch. She lived in England during World War II working with the British Red Cross in a first aid post in London and in hospitals in England. She was awarded a British Red Cross medal. After this she returned to Canada with her husband Dr. Noel Jenkins. A musical career was not possible after an attack of polio which badly affected her right arm and hand. She became active in several organizations in Regina - the Regina Musical Club, Canadian Club, and Regina Arts Commission. She is survived by two daughters, Deborah Ann Whitmore (John) of Edmonton and Denise Jenkins-Folstad (Dale) of Regina; and four granddaughters, Amy, Sarah, Catherine, Victoria. She was predeceased by her husband Dr. Noel Jenkins; her parents Mr. and Mrs. J. W. Maguire of Saskatoon; two sisters, Hilda Maguire of Saskatoon, Irene Maguire of Washington, D.C.; and three brothers, the Honourable Percy Maguire, Regina, Dr. Clarence Maguire, Grosse Pointe, Michigan and Dr. Webster Maguire, Vancouver. A family memorial will be held at a later date.
