Obituary of Mary Smylie

SMYLIE, Alice - On Tuesday, September 26, 2006, Alice Smylie late of Broadway Terrace Personal Care Home, Regina, passed away at the age of 94. She was predeceased by brothers David Smylie and William Smylie, sisters Ruby Horsfall and Georgina Smylie, and her nephew Bill Smylie. She will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by her nieces Fae (Bill) Adams, Jordie Langdon, Alice Fenelon, Lynne (Ted) Rewcastle; nephews Bill (Andrea) Horsfall, George (Wendy) Horsfall; and many grandnieces, grandnephews, cousins, and friends. Alice was born February 12, 1912 in Star City, SK. She grew up in a musical household and chose that as her vocation. Alice taught music lessons for many years. As well, she enjoyed working at Heinzmans Music Store in Regina and the Saskatoon Piano House. Music continued to be an important part of her life. She volunteered to play for the veterans' '"happy hour" at Wascana Rehabilitation Centre and into her 90's Alice was the pianist for the Royal Canadian Legion Ladies' Auxiliary. As a long time supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughriders, Alice was always eager to discuss their latest game or their newest prospects. She inspired all who knew her with her joie de vive and her unfailing sense of fun and good humour. The family wishes to express appreciation to the wonderful staff at Broadway Terrace Personal Care Home for creating a loving family environment and for making us feel welcome whenever we came to visit. A funeral service will be held on Monday, October 2, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, Sask. with Pastor Lois Knudson Munholland officiating. Honorary Pallbearers are the Royal Canadian Legion, Ladies' Auxiliary, Regina Branch No. 001. Private interment to follow at Star City, SK. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Lung Association of Saskatchewan,1231- 8th Street East, Saskatoon, SK S7H 0S5, or a charity of choice.
