Obituary of Bernard Leo Korchinski
KORCHINSKI - Bernard Leo Korchinski passed away peacefully on Friday, October 13, 2006. He was born at Beaver Hill near Ituna, Sk on December 25th, 1905. He was the fifth of thirteen children. Predeceased by his wife, Slawka (2003); his parents Leo and Pauline (Hrychiw); seven brothers; and four sisters, Bernard is survived by four children, Bernadine, Leslie (Phyllis), Barry (Laureen) and Linda (Ken) Weimer; eleven grandchildren; twenty-one great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren; brother Bonace (Ann); as well as many nieces and nephews. Bernard led a very active life - teaching for 39 years in various communities in Saskatchewan, serving as the Liberal member of the Legislature for Redberry for two terms, acting as the Emergency Measures Director as well as the Citizenship Court Judge in Saskatchewan. He was very proud of his Ukrainian heritage and faithful to his Catholic religion. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, the Ukrainian Catholic Brotherhood (founding member), the St. Athanasius Church (founding member), the Ukrainian Catholic Youth (founding member), and the first Ukrainian Boy Scout leader, an organization he supported all his life. Bernard was an avid hunter, landscape painter, history buff, gardener, choir master and was always happy to take on new challenges. The Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday, October 19th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Athanasius Ukrainian Catholic Church, 55 McMurchy Avenue, Regina with Rev. Father L. Romanow presiding. Interment will be held at a later date.
