Obituary of Wilhelm Reinoehl

Wilhelm Christian Reinoehl of Regina, Saskatchewan, passed away of cancer on October 18, 2012, at the age of 86, with his daughter Renny and son-in-law Russ at his side. Wilhelm was born on September 29, 1926, in Nuertingen, Germany, to Lydia and Friedrich Reinoehl. He grew up in the tumultuous times of World War II and the years preceding it, yet had a happy childhood, swimming in the Neckar River, playing in the cherry orchards and later apprenticing to be a machinist in his family's business. Wilhelm immigrated in 1951 to Montreal, Canada, to be with his fianc, Gabriele Zeisel. He and Gabi were married in Montreal on March 15, 1952. Wilhelm worked for almost 40 years as a machinist for various manufacturing companies in Montreal, working for many years at Ashton MAN as a senior machinist for the company, which built paper manufacturing machines. He traveled many times for the company to Europe and the United States to overhaul machines. Wilhelm was also a skilled welder and made many beautiful ironwork furniture pieces, which the family treasures. Those years, Wilhelm, Gabi and their daughter Renny spent many enjoyable weekends with family and friends in Rawdon, Quebec, in the Laurentian Mountains outside of Montreal. Wilhelm loved swimming in the lake with Renny and teaching Renny and her good friend Margaret Lauzier Senra to drive on the country roads. He also enjoyed driving vacations across Canada, the United States and Mexico. He also loved to return to Germany to visit family and friends. In l974, Wilhelm, Gabi, Renny and Margaret traveled to Germany; during that trip in Munich at the Oktoberfest, Renny met her future husband Russ. In 1989, Wilhelm and Gabi retired to Regina, Saskatchewan, to be closer to their daughter Renny, son-in-law Russ and granddaughters in northeastern Montana. For over 20 years, he and Gabi and Rennys family enjoyed many visits across the border. Wilhelm and Gabi loved hosting everyone and greatly enjoyed their time at Renny and Russ farm in Dagmar, Montana, as well. Wilhelm especially took pleasure in the fellowship at the Volmer Church in Dagmar. In Regina, Wilhelm loved to take long bike rides across the city and continued to bike into his early 80s. He also loved watching soccer, especially the World Cup. He and granddaughter Megan spent many hours playing with his Markel trains. In retirement, Wilhelm and Gabi also traveled to Germany with their granddaughters, Lori and Kathleen, and he especially enjoyed showing them his childhood home. He was very proud to share his German culture and language with family, including taking granddaughter Louise to German Camp in Regina, and Louise and the other girls loved going to Mosaic with Wilhelm and Gabi. Gabi and Wilhelm greatly enjoyed their friendships at the Regina German Seniors Club and going to the listen to the German Choir. Wilhelm loved to keep in touch with family and friends in Germany, and he must have written thousands of letters in the over 60 years he was in Canada. The love for his homeland continued his entire life. Wilhelm was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and a most generous host, making sure no ones glass was ever empty. Wilhelm treasured birthdayshis own as well as everyone else's. Wilhelm was a very kind, gentle and generous person to everyone he meta true gentleman in every sense of the word. Wilhelm is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Gabi of 58 years. He leaves behind his loving daughter Renny and son-in-law Russell Torgerson of Dagmar, Montana, and beloved granddaughters, Lori (Chris) Warden of Missoula, Montana; Kathleen Hurst and Jeremy Hurst of Girdwood, Alaska; Louise Torgerson of Columbia, Missouri; and Megan Torgerson of Missoula, Montana; as well as his special great-grandsons Finley and William Warden and Odin Hurst.
