Obituary of Alex Marion

ALEX MARION Alex Marion was born in Chicago, Illinois on January 3, 1925 and passed away on November 12, 2006 in Regina. He is survived by his loving wife Johanna and his five children, Ron, Pam, Wendy, Esther, and Christine; and six grandchildren; his brothers and sister and family in the United States and Germany. Alex served in the United States Navy during World War II on the USS Tiger, as a sailor in the South Pacific, and was awarded the Purple Heart. He returned to start his first business, Sven Olsen and Company in Chicago. In 1972 he moved to Regina where he successfully started the McDonalds restaurants business. He was an active participant in community events and charities such as the Ronald McDonald House, various City of Regina Police children and fire prevention house events, child abuse rehabilitation programs, various childrens sport events and crime prevention programs. Alex was also a supporter of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police Handgun Championships. He loved to fish and target shoot and spend time with his family and friends. The Marion family requests that, in lieu of flowers, contributions should be made, in memoriam, to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina S4P 2R3. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, November 15, 2006 at 12:00 noon in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Rabbi Howard Voss Altman officiating. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens.
