ABDAY - On Saturday, December 2, 2006, Alfred (Fred) George Abday passed away peacefully at Regina General Hospital at the age of 69. He leaves to mourn his passing his sons, Dennis (Joan) and their children Amy and Jody of Regina, SK; Kyle (Brenda) and their children Kristin and Megan of White City, SK; grandsons Ryan Bahan of Regina and Clinton and Shane Davis of Regina Beach; sisters Elizabeth Bernath, Eleanor (Ken) Leftwich, Carol (Gordon) Cole, Rose (Bill) Mann; brother Albert (Dave); sisters-in-law Helen Abdai, Alice Abdai, Geraldine Wendel, Louise Malowany, Faye (Marvin) Rabe, Ada Gott; as well as many nieces and nephews. Alfred, known to everyone as "Fred was predeceased by his wife Phyllis on March 12, 2004; his brothers Rudolph Abdai, Zolton Abdai, John Abdai and Alexander Abdai; nieces Brenda Abdai, Nikki Gott; and great-nephew Russell Abdai. Fred was born on September 7, 1937 in Melville, Saskatchewan. He met Phyllis Topinka and after a short courtship, they were married on November 22, 1958. Fred worked construction as a carpenter for most of his life. Throughout the years they moved from Esterhazy, Saskatoon, Asquith and finally settled in Regina in 1970 where he took a job as a carpenter on the College West Building at the University of Regina where his grandchildren now attend. His love and dreams were always to be a farmer. In the fall of 1981, they purchased a quarter section of land just south east of White City where they fulfilled their lifelong dream of raising thoroughbred racehorses and cattle. Fred and Phyllis shared the spotlight and winners circle on many occasions with their racehorses. During his younger years, Fred was an avid softball player and in his later years, coached both hockey and baseball. He will be best remembered as a notorious joke teller. In September 2002, Fred was severely injured in a car accident and never fully recovered. His wife Phyllis attempted to love and nurture him back to health, but to no avail. Upon her passing in 2004, a part of Fred died as well. He just wanted to be with her and nurtured by her for his remaining time of earth and he was a lost soul without her. At last his wish came true and they will be together again. The family wishes to thank the staff at Regina General Hospital, Unit 6A and CCU for their care of Fred. Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, December 9, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. in Broadway United Church, 105 Broadway Avenue, Regina with Rev. Jim Balfour officiating. Interment in Balgonie Cemetery, Balgonie, SK. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Hospitals of Regina Foundation, (Unit 6A or CCU at Regina General Hospital), 225 - 1874 Scarth Street, Regina S4P 4B3.
