Obituary of Dorothy Louise Machin

MACHIN - While we celebrate her long and full life, Dorothys family is sad to announce her passing on December 15, 2006 after a very brief illness. Born in Rantoul, Illinois in 1905, her family moved to their new farm between Richardson and Pilot Butte in 1909. She taught school and piano, sewed beautifully, worked on the farm, played the church organ and cared for her parents. Dorothy moved to Los Angeles in 1966 to help friends then worked for the May Company. She stayed in touch with family and friends through letters and regular visits home. She returned to Regina in 1986, hosting family dinners until 2001, playing bridge and visiting with old and new friends. She enjoyed visits from Doreen and Jim, new found relatives from England. Her 100th birthday party with family and friends from across Canada was a highlight of 2005. Predeceased by her parents Alfred and Agnes, brothers Herbert (Marion) and Howard (Ruth), Auntie Dorothy is lovingly remembered by her nieces and nephews Ralph and Myrna, Diane and Ron Nagel, Morley and Jean, Brenda, Joan and Gordon Brash and Linda and Dave Pratt, ten great-nieces and nephews and six great-great nieces and nephews. She was a strong and independent lady who asked little and gave much. The Funeral Service will be held at St. Phillips Anglican Church, 3018 Doan Drive on Thursday, December 21 at 2:00 p.m. with Archdeacon Helena-Rose Houldcroft officiating. The family thanks Parkside Extendicare for their care and support of her independence provided over the past five years. For friends so wishing, donations in Dorothys memory may be made to the Saskatchewan Lung Association, 1231 - 8th Street East, Saskatoon, S7H 0S5 or to a charity of your choice.
