Obituary of Arthur Francis Mead

MEAD- On Friday, Dec 22, 2006 Arthur Francis Mead, late of Regina formerly of Bethune, passed away peacefully at the age of 88 years. Art was born Dec 29, 1917 on a farm south of Bethune, Sask. He was predeceased by his wife Murle in 1985, father Fred and mother Mary, and sister Gladys (Charles) Turtle, sister in law Peg Mead, brother in law Floyd Lawson, brother in law Steve Sluzalo, brother in law Grant Evans, brother in law Phil Lawson, sister in law Elaine (Toby) Serack, brother in law James Broome. He is survived by his son Robert (Linda) Mead, daughter Myrna (Jim) Peno and son Glen (Donna) Mead; grandchildren Brian (Peg) Mead, Colin Mead, Rebecca (Glenn) Cook, Nicole Peno, Michelle (Scott Schuba) Mead, Amanda (Chris Kohl) Mead and Tim Mead along with 9 great grandchildren Nicole, Bre-Anne, Alyssa, Samantha, Cassie, Jesse, Tracy, Landyn, and Alecia; sisters Doris Evans, Bernice Lawson; brother Norman (Ray) Mead, sister in law Evelyn (Bob ) Huntley, sister in law Doreen Hill, sister in law Lorraine (Reg) Rayner, sister in law Jennie Lawson; and many nieces & nephews. Art spent his whole life farming in the Bethune District with his many friends and neighbors. He had joined the Army in 1941 and served until his release in 1946. In those years he served in France, Italy, and Holland. Art returned home to his love of farming when he met & married Murle Lawson. He farmed until he retired at the age of 76 continuing to live at his home in Bethune. His passions in life were his family, grandchildren & great grandchildren, friends, nature, the country life, and a good round of crib, dice, rummy or any board game. Another passion was his involvement in the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch #304. For this he worked tirelessly until his health would no longer permit. In 2004 Art moved to the Two Spirit Country Care Home near Regina Beach, SK. where he resided until Nov 2005. He then moved to Wascana Veterans Unit 3-5 in Regina, SK. where he resided until his passing. Art will be greatly missed but forever remembered for his wonderful smile, great wit and all around love of life. A special thank you to Dr. Newton and all the caring staff on Unit 3-5 Wascana Veterans Unit. Also a very special thank you to a very special nurse who had also cared for Arts mother. A funeral service will be held in Bethune Community Hall, Bethune SK. on Saturday December 30, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with Chaplain Lee Tennyson officiating. Interment in Bethune Cemetery. A visitation for family and friends will be held in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave. Regina SK. on Friday December 29 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Kinsmen/Telemiracle Foundation of SK. 2217C Hanselman Court. Saskatoon SK. S7L-6A8.
