Obituary of Nanna Kristbjorg Sherman

SHERMAN - Nanna Kristbjorg passed away on Wednesday, January 31, 2007, just two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. Predeceased by her beloved husband, Leslie in 1982; her parents, Jon and Margaret Christianson; sisters, Kristine, Svana, and Lillian (in infancy); brother, Sam (Simmie); nephews, Garnet and Joe; son-in-law, Leo Smyth; granddaughters, Lee and Francis; grandson, Leo. Nanna is survived by her daughters, Isobel Hart (David) of Osoyoos, BC and Yvonne Smyth of Calgary, AB; her son, Les Sherman (Celia) of Regina, SK; seven grandchildren, Louisa (Ian), Peg (Rick), Yvonne, Katie, Les (Karen), Glenn (Heather), Coralie (Paul); seventeen great- grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Nanna was born on February 15, 1907 in Wynyard, SK. She married Leslie Sherman in 1926 when she was 19 years old. Together they had three children. Nanna attended Normal School in Saskatoon and was an elementary school teacher until her first child was born. Later in life she worked at Simpsons Department Store in Regina and then worked full time as an office manager for Canadian Hail Underwriters. Nanna was a dedicated wife and mother all of her life. Homemaking was a gift with her cooking and baking on a cozy woodstove. She also enjoyed sketching, watercolors, knitting, crocheting, sewing, and painting each place her family moved to. Nanna worked part time in 1954 to save enough money to buy the lot for her one and only home in Regina. The safety and security of her own cozy home was highly cherished and when she moved out at 97 years of age it was with grave anxiety and bewilderment. A special "Thank You to Dr. Susan MacDonald and the staff at Lumsden & District Heritage Home for the loving care given to Mom. Mom and her family appreciated their special attention and kindness. Funeral Service will be held on Monday, February 5, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with Rev. Helmut Nachtigall officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park.
