Obituary of Hillas Cole Powell

HILLAS COLE POWELL Sadly we say goodbye to a very special gentleman, Hillas Cole Powell, father, grandfather and great grandfather. Dad passed away peacefully on Saturday October 27th, 2012 at the age of 96 years. He was born at Pitman, Saskatchewan, the first child of Ladye and George Powell. Dad was predeceased by his wife Bertha of 71 years and is survived by his younger sister Ruth Butler (Ellsworth), his daughter Beverly (Dave), two sons, Stanley (Bev) and Bill (Judi). He will be fondly missed by his 11 grandchildren and 24 great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families and friends and neighbors in the Rouleau district. Mom and Dad bought the home farm north of Rouleau in 1940, shortly after they were married and their hearts never left that piece of land. They spent many enjoyable summer breaks, fishing in northern Saskatchewan, many winters in Hawaii and Arizona, spent with family members and friends. If there was a marquee in lights for Dad it would say Here is a man of honesty, integrity and love of his family, his land and his community?. Special thanks to the caregivers who have cared for Dad. Celebration of his life will be held Wednesday October 31st, 2012 in Rouleau United Church, Rouleau, SK at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Jo Mader and Rev. Tim Ellis officiating.
