Obituary of Raymond Andrew Dionne

DIONNE - Raymond Andrew Dionne passed away on Tuesday, February 13, 2007 at the age of 89 years after a six year battle with Alzheimers Disease. Raymond was born on March 14, 1917 at Radville, SK. He was predeceased by his parents Edouard and Sonya (Bourassa) Dionne; an infant son, Richard; his brother Alcide; sister Simone Tremblay; son-in-law James Schmidtz. Raymond is survived by his wife of 64 years, Olive (OHara) and their children, Gary (Marge) and their children Robert (Christa) and Jacquelyn; Marita Robinson (David) and her children, Ryan Schmidtz and Caitlin (Steven) Tennant; Cheryl Braun (Ken) and their daughter Chantal (Bobby) Penner; Brian (Eva) and their children Lynnette (Scott) Maier and Nancy (Chad) Bentz; Stephen (Fay) and their children Curtis, Deidra and Drew; Catherine; Danita (Carlos) Nunez and their children, Olivia and Raya; six great-grandchildren; and two step-grandchildren. Raymond farmed in the Radville area until he retired to Regina in 1975. He took a keen interest in his childrens education and served on the St. Olivier Catholic School Board for over 25 years, the majority of which he was chairman. He was also a Past Grand Knight and Charter Member of the Monahan Council of the Knights of Columbus and a Charter Member of Christ the King Knights of Columbus Council. He was a fourth degree member of the Knights of Columbus in Weyburn and Regina. He was a Charter Member and served on the Board of the Radville Credit Union until he retired to Regina. After Ray and Olive retired in Regina they became very active in Christ the King parish where Ray volunteered his handyman skills in caretaking, carpentry and renovation projects. Ray and Olive delivered Meals on Wheels , visited the sick, organized funeral lunches and Bridge tournaments for the Knights of Columbus. In 1993 a fitting tribute was paid when the Raymond and Olive Dionne Family were the recipients of the Saskatchewan Knights of Columbus Family of the Year Award. This award is based on parish and community involvement. They were also the nominees for the International Knights of Columbus Family of the Year Award. Special thanks to the staff at Regina Pioneer Village for their tremendous help and support. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer Society of Saskatchewan Inc. ,#301 - 2550 - 12th Avenue, Regina S4P 3X1. A Memorial Service will be held at a future date.
