Obituary of Wesley John Kirby

Wesley John Kirby, formerly of Rouleau, SK, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 11, 2007 at the Coteau Range Manor, Avonlea, SK at the age of 94 years. Wes will be sadly missed and fondly remembered by his children Hazel (Bruce) Ray, Fred (Evelyn Zehr), Helen (Don) Kincaid, and Dave (Jill); daughter-in-law Susan Kuhlmann; his thirteen grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; his aunt Nellie Molleken; brother-in-law John (Marge) McElmon; and many nieces and nephews. Wes was born July 27, 1912 at the family farm three miles west of Rowatt, the third son of his parents Fred and Emma (Molleken) Kirby. He was predeceased by his parents; his beloved wife of 49 years, Gwendolyn (May 1991); an infant son Wesley Wayne (1946); his son Donald Ross (December 1999); siblings, (infant) Elmer, Emma (Peter) Graham, Ethel (Albert) Neiser, Henry (Julia) Kirby and Alvin (Muriel) Kirby; sisters-in-law Jean (Toss) Pryor and Norma (Robert) Bryden. Wes attended school in Sherwood and Bratts Lake. He married Gwen McElmon in April 1941 and they moved to Rouleau in 1949, where they farmed and raised their family. Wes loved farming and building or redesigning things mechanical. He was a devoted husband and family man and was also a great friend and neighbor to many people. The family wishes to thank the staff at Coteau Range Manor for the kindness and care provided to Wes since April 2006. Flowers gratefully declined. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, March 15, 2007 at 1:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue with Jo Mader officiating. Interment in Regina Cemetery.
