Obituary of Leonne Elmire Rondeau

Leonne Elmire Rondeau October 8, 1902 - April 13, 2007 On April 13th, 2007, Leonne Rondeau passed away peacefully in her 105th year. She was predeceased by her husband, Vernier in 1964, her son Dr. Paul L. Rondeau in 1981, her son and beloved daughter-in-law Malcolm and Lucille Rondeau in 2003. She is survived and will be fondly remembered by her ten grandchildren - Kirk Rondeau and Dr. Paul Rondeau, Regina, SK; Dr. Kent Rondeau, Edmonton, AB; Marcia Keesey, Saskatoon, SK; Marilou Davies, New Westminster, BC; Heather Rondeau, Dr. Wendy Rondeau, Dr. Malcolm Rondeau and Mary Beth Rondeau, all of Vancouver, BC; and J. David Rondeau, Tokyo, Japan. She is also survived by twenty-three great-grandchildren; and nephews Brian Fluhmann, Halifax, NS and Bill Fluhmann, Mississauga, ON. Leonne was born October 8, 1902 at Namur, Quebec. She was raised by her parents Adolphe and Elmire Fluhmann in the Montreal area. In 1920, she married Dr. Vernier Rondeau and the young couple ventured west to Rouleau, SK where Vernier had already established his dental practice. They lived in Rouleau for some 40 years, raising their sons Malcolm and Paul and instilling in them their deep and abiding love of the Saskatchewan prairies and the necessity for higher education. She was very socially active in the Rouleau community and, as well, assisted her husband with his practice. Leonne and Vernier moved to Southey, SK in 1959 where they continued to practice dentistry until shortly before his death. By this time, their retirement summer home - Ron-D-Vous - had been established at Echo Lake. There they welcomed their Regina and Vancouver families, and many friends. During the following 25 years following Verniers passing, she spent spring through fall at Echo Lake and winters with her family in Vancouver. She was an excellent bridge and cribbage player and an avid and meticulous gardener. Her gardens at the lake were her passion. From those gardens, came bountiful harvests of fruits and vegetables - especially tomatoes - and incredible flowers which were admired by many passers-by. Her home-made raspberry and strawberry jams, made with her own garden fruits, were a delicacy and were often exported to family in Vancouver and Toronto. Her cinnamon buns were state-of-the-art and earned her the nickname "C.B.. In her 89th year, she took up residence in Regina Pioneer Village. Leonnes family expresses their sincere gratitude to the wonderful staff at Regina Pioneer Village and especially her care providers on Unit 2E. The care and attention which she received there helped to preserve her joy of life and ease of manner, qualities which remained with her until her passing. At the request of her family, there will be no formal funeral service. A private family memorial celebration will occur at a later time.
