Obituary of Roy Stanley Archer

ARCHER, ROY STANLEY (SANDY) passed away on April 14th, 2007. Born August 11th, 1920 in Moose Jaw, he was the last child of Sam and Anne Archer and is predeceased by his siblings, Harry, Ivy, Elsie, Vera, Ruby and June. As a young man he joined the army and spent five and half years in the Canadian Army Medical Corps during World War II. From 1950 to 1980 he was the head trainer for the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was also trainer for the Regina Pats Hockey Club for sixteen years. Sandy was predeceased by his first wife, Thora Perkin in 1986 and his second wife Florence Wilkie in 2000. Sandy is survived by his two daughters, Lynda Archer of Hamilton, Ontario and Sandra Oliver (Gordon) of Springfield, Virginia along with four grandsons, Joshua and Tobiah Cornfield and Michael and Matthew Oliver. Sandy was an active member of the National Athletic Trainer Association and a founding member of the Canadian Athletic Therapists Association. He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame in 2003. A visitation for family and friends will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue on Thursday, April 19th from 7:00 - 9:00 p.m. Funeral Service will be held at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue on Friday, April 20th at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. A reception will be held at Speers Family Centre, 2333 Cornwall Street immediately following the interment. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Saskatchewan, 2360 - 2nd Avenue, Regina S4R 1A6.
