Obituary of Evie Higgins

HIGGINS - Evie Higgins joined her Eternal Father on May 8th, 2007. It is with great sadness that we deal with her passing but great joy that we had so many years with a wonderful Mother, Grandmother and GreatGrandmother. Evie was born the eldest of 11 brothers and sisters on December 20th, 1912. She married her long time sweetheart James (Jim) Higgins in 1934 and they eventually settled in Regina, Saskatchewan. As with so many women of her generation she was left alone during the war years with four young children but met this adversity with the courage and humor for which she was noted all her life. Waiting to welcome Evie and help her continue her journey on the other side are her parents Phil and Claudia Dillon, her sisters Myrtle, Dorothy, Clarice and brothers Norman, Arthur, Oliver, John and Leonard, grandson Darryl Grant, great-grandson Christopher Carr and her beloved husband Jim who left us in 1975. Evie is survived by her sister Evelyn and brother Aubrey and sister-inlaw Julia. Jim and Evie have five children. Evie is survived by her son Roy of Regina, daughter Doreen and husband Darryl Grant of Calgary, Clara and husband Gordon Mair of Lethbridge, James (Jim) and his wife Faith of Lumby, B.C. and Kathleen and her husband Gary Beatty of Calgary. One of Mom's greatest joys in life was her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and they will miss her. Evie enjoyed many diverse activities in her life such as fishing, golfing, bowling, gardening and music. It was a pleasure to watch her toes tapping and hands clapping as she sang along with the tunes. In listing the activities Mom enjoyed, we can't forget Bridge. She enjoyed playing Bridge with her husband Jim in the early years and in the later years with her group of friends at Palliser Place. Evie had great faith in her religion and spent many enjoyable hours in the choir at Rosemont United Church as well as the Ladies Auxiliary. A graveside service will be held at Regina Memorial Gardens at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, May 14th, 2007 with Rev. Marjorie Kent officiating. In lieu of flowers, Evie's family requests memorial tributes are made to the charity of the donor's choice.
