Obituary of Leokadia Seida

Leokadia (Katie) Seida It is with heavy hearts that we announce the death of our mother, Katie Seida, on May 15, 2007, at the Pasqua Hospital. Mom passed away peacefully with her family at her side. Mom was born in Czernowitz, Bukovina, Austria, on February, 21, 1915, the oldest daughter of Alexandra and Alexander Timoficiuc. She was predeceased by her parents; her first husband George Ceahorianu; children Mircea (Micky) and Stalion (Titos) Ceahorianu and Horst Seida; granddaughter Danielle Dawn Appel; as well as three sisters and two brothers. She is survived by her husband of 70 years, Otto Seida; her children Arnold (Isobel) Seida, Alma (Victor) Neiser, Otto (Evelyn) Seida, Lucy (Philip) Grob, Hilda (Ron) Gamble, Ingrid (Mervin) Appel; twenty-three grandchildren; twenty-seven great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren; and her nephew Stephan (Dominic) Pitei, who mom and dad helped immigrate to Canada; as well as many nieces and nephews in Europe. Mom married dad February 6, 1937, in Czernowitz and moved throughout Europe with five of their children under difficult circumstances during WWII landing in Denmark where their sixth child was born. In August, 1948, they immigrated to Canada and settled first in Assiniboia and then moved to Regina in 1952. Her last two children were born in Canada. Her family was her joy. She spent many happy days sewing, knitting and crocheting for her children and grandchildren. She was famous throughout the family for her baking, particularly her black forest cakes. She crocheted afghans to her final days. She won first prize for one of these afghans at the Provincial Exhibition when she was 90. Mom had spent the last two years at the Regina Lutheran Home. We wish to thank the staff of the home for the tender care they have given mom and are continuing to give to dad. Moms Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, May 18, at 10:30 a.m. at Christ the King Roman Catholic Church, 3239 Garnet St. Interment will follow at Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations in remembrance, may be made to the Regina Lutheran Home, 1925 " 5th Ave. N., Regina, SK S4R 7W1 or a charity of your choice.
