Obituary of Mary Helen Cochrane

COCHRANE, Mary Helen " After a long and productive life, Mary Cochrane passed away on Sunday, May 27, 2007 at the age of 93. Born June 7, 1913 on the family farm at Ridgedale, SK, the only daughter of parents Eva and George Wilk. Mary lived on the farm in the Ridgedale area until her marriage to Peter Chlopan in 1932 where they continued to farm until 1956 when they moved to Saskatoon. Peter and Mary provided a home for countless university students in Saskatoon until his death in 1962. Always interested in caring for the sick, Mary went back to school and pursued a course in caregiving. Eventually she moved to Regina to be closer to her children. Here she met Russell Cochrane whom she married and enjoyed many years of traveling, dancing, and particularly their association with the Seniors Centre on Winnipeg Street. Mary was predeceased by her first husband, Peter Chlopan, second husband, Russell Cochrane; stepdaughter, Carol Reichert; brothers, Alex, George, John, Henry, Fred, Stephen Wilk; as well as her sisters-in-law, Polly, Edith, Edna and Rosalee Wilk. She leaves to mourn her passing, her brother Walter Bud Wilk (Dorothy), Winnipeg, MB; sisters-in-law, Ann Wilk, Calgary, Reta Wilk, Calgary, Kathleen Wilk, Montreal. She will be missed by her son Carroll Chlopan (Kathy), Regina and her daughter Eve Strain (Raymond), Calgary. She will be greatly missed by her grandchildren with whom she had a special bond: Seana Strain, Canmore, AB, Tim Strain (Janine Violini), Calgary, AB, Lesley Magnus (Randy, Ryan and Christian), Saskatoon, Richard Chlopan (Lisa), Kelowna, BC, Scott Chlopan, Montreal, Barbara Diaz (Felipe, Madeleine and Lena), Regina, Sherrie Reichert-Nixon (Rob), Regina, and Barbara Reichert, Regina; as well as her great-grandchild, Halle Chlopan. Mary had a keen interest in the lives of her many nieces and nephews and kept in touch with them all. The family wishes to thank the staff at QuAppelle House and Regina Lutheran Home where she was given much love and compassion. Funeral Service will be held on Friday, June 1, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. in St. Matthews Anglican Church, 2161 Winnipeg Street, Regina with Canon Blair Dixon officiating. Interment will be at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Saskatoon on Saturday, June 2, 2007 at 11:30 a.m. An online book of condolences may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
