Obituary of Peter Sakundiak

SAKUNDIAK - Peter Sakundiak died peacefully on Tuesday, December 20th, 2005. Peter was predeceased by his wife Ella Marie (nee Stulberg); his brother Alex; sisters Kate, Anne and Lena. Peter is survived by his son Larry (Carol) Sakundiak; his daughter Sharon (Lloyd) Ottenbreit; grandchildren Kim and Wade Sakundiak, Derrick (Kim) Ottenbreit, Amie (Vince) Amyotte; great-grandchildren, Courtney and Hannah Ottenbreit, and Sydney Amyotte; his brother Mike (Sophie) Sakundiak and sisters Bunny (Alex) Konoff and Evelyn Ryan; as well as Ellas family and numerous nieces and nephews. Peter was born September 17, 1922 in Mikado, SK where he grew up on the family farm before moving to the Regina area. Peter and Ella were married in 1945 and farmed in the Riceton area. Peter was a farmer throughout his life, but he was also very interested in manufacturing. In 1948, Peter formed Sakundiak Farm Equipment to manufacture a disc harrow designed by his brother Alex. The following year, a farmers request resulted in the manufacture of grain augers and the business expanded to include the manufacture of grain bins in 1992. Peters business was truly a family affair, which over the past 57 years has employed both of his children, their spouses and all four grandchildren. Peter also valued the commitment of the employees, many of whom have been with the company for most of their working lives. Peter enjoyed traveling throughout the world, including trips to Europe, South America, and Asia. At the time of his illness, Peter was looking forward to a trip to Vietnam. He also enjoyed photography, dancing, and socializing with friends and family members, but the main focus of his life was his business. Peter could be found working in the plant, alongside his employees until this September when he was no longer able to participate in this aspect of the business. A visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, December 22, 2005 from 7:00 - 8:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. A Remembrance Service will be held on Friday, December 23rd at 1:00 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in Peters name, to a charity of their choice. An on-line book of condolence may be signed at www.speersfuneralchapel.com
