Obituary of Mary Katherine Johnston

JOHNSTON - Mary Katherine Johnston, age 83 years, late of Regina, passed away peacefully with family by her side on Thursday, January 5, 2006. Predeceased by her parents George and Anna Lekivetz; husband Percy (Bud) in 1970; brothers-in-law, Ern Obst, Harry, Ben (Pearl) and Lindsay Johnston; sisters-in-law, Olive and Eva Johnston; Mary leaves to mourn her sons, Bill of Riceton, Rodney (Nicole), Garry (Lana), Doug (Tammy), and daughter Sandra (Bill) Burwash, all of Calgary; eight grandchildren: Kevin and Mick, Katie and Lisa, Warren and Kayla, all of Calgary; Darren and Matthew of Quebec; three great-grandchildren: Sabrina, Brooklyn, Jasmine, all of Calgary; her sister Margaret Obst; brother Don (Grace) Lekivetz; nieces and nephews; and many friends. Mary lived most of her life in Riceton - raising a family and helping on the farm. She was an active member of the Sacred Heart Church. Bud and Mary were caretakers at the Riceton rink. After Bud passed, Bill took over the farming and Mom continued to help out. She was caretaker of Riceton School and then worked at Pioneer Village for many years. She moved to Regina in early 2002 where she made many new friends at the Cornwall Village. A special Thank You to the EMS team, the staff at the Emergency Ward at Regina General Hospital, and to Father Norm Marcotte and Chaplain Gladys McElwee. At Moms request, a private family Memorial Service will be held at a later date. In memory of Mary, a donation may be made to a charity of choice.
