Obituary of Mildred Yvonne Ironside

Mildred Yvonne Lockwood Ironside Passed away peacefully at the Regina General Hospital on Wednesday, January 18, 2006. Millie was born to William (Bill) and Jean Bannister on November 16, 1924 in Regina at the Grey Nuns Hospital. Throughout her life she resided in various locations in Ontario, Manitoba and Saskatchewan, before coming back home to Regina in 1996. She was predeceased by her parents, one brother Allan McIntosh, her first husband Karl Merrington Lockwood in 1977 and husband James Dafoe Ironside in 1988. Millie is survived by her brother Bill (Helen) Bannister, and sister Jean (Dave) Matchett, her daughter Susan (Jack) Stewardson, son Eric (Margie) Lockwood, step-son Ian Lockwood, step-son Gordon (Natalie) Ironside, stepdaughters Judi (Vaco) Maxted, Margaret (Alex) Abernathy, Beth (Dwight) Field, Catherine (Keith) Rispler. She is also survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins as well as nineteen grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. Millie loved all of her family and took particular pride in their accomplishments. In later years she delighted in following their progress whether it was in sports, music or schooling. Throughout her life Millie enjoyed sports of all kinds. She loved tennis, curling, golf, hockey and her beloved Roughriders. Millie was generous with her time, involving herself with various organizations such as the Red Cross, Saskatchewan Golf Association, Progressive Conservative Party of Saskatchewan, Scott Collegiate Reunion Committee and the Tournament of Hearts Organizing Committee, to name a few. Millie was also a lifetime member of Beta Sigma Phi and a past President of the Wascana Country Club Ladies Division. Millies organizational skills could always be counted on. She had the gift of conversation, and an incredible memory for people, times and places. Millies travels across Canada and winters spent in Palm Springs, California produced many close friendships. Millie was a much loved mother, sister, grandmother and friend. She will be missed. Funeral services will be held at the RCMP Chapel Monday, January 23, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. with interment and reception to follow at the RCMP Officers Mess. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations made in her honour to the Friends of the RCMP Museum, Box 6500, Regina, SK S4P 3J7, Athol Murray College of Notre Dame, Box 100, Wilcox, SK S0G 5E0 or the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina S4P 2R3.
