Obituary of Ada Lavina Kolot

ADA LAVINA KOLOT (nee Hunter) May 12, 1915 - January 19, 2006 Born on the family farm (Section 30, Township 16, Range 12, W2nd, SK) near Waldeck, Saskatchewan, Ada was the youngest of three daughters of Alva Violet Edmanson and John Wilmot Hunter. From the age of three, she was raised by her mother, a teacher, who taught in Antelope, Sheho, Oliver, Brandon, Leader and Wakaw. She completed her academic and music education at Zion Academy in Wakaw and Mount Royal College in Calgary, receiving her Royal Conservatory of Music A.R.C.T. in 1933. Ada married Roy Kolot, a young school teacher in 1938 and later taught piano lessons, touching hundreds of young lives in towns where Roy taught school including Wakaw, Hudson Bay Junction, Beechy, Kamsack, Tantallon, Abbey, Meadow Lake, Herbert, Leader and Swift Current. Throughout her life Ada was actively involved in the United Church, the I.O.D.E., Womens Institute and book clubs and was an active supporter of the C.C.F./N.D.P. In her later years she became a Life Master at duplicate bridge. She also had a strong interest in family geneology, taking great pride in her United Empire Loyalist and Yorkshire English heritage. Adas life was irreparably changed in 1980 with the death of her only daughter Elayne Krahn. Her husband Roy died in 1998 and in 2004 she moved to Regina after a minor stroke. Ada is survived by her son Glenn (Lois) of Victoria, grandchildren Andrea (Ross) Wilde (Rachel and Ava) and Doug (fiance Jennifer); her son Ken (Maureen) of Regina; grandchildren Natasha (Mike) Blaisdell (Chantal, Whitney, Madelaine and Harrison), Benjamin, Jonathan, and Amy (Jason) Habicht (Sebastien); grandchildren Tanya (Clare) Purdy and Nathan Krahn and son-in-law Lawrence Krahn (Lois Harrison) of Regina. The Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, January 28th in Wesley United Church, 3913 Hillsdale Street, Regina. A service of interment will be held in Swift Current at a later date. Flowers gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations, in memoriam, to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre Street, Regina S4P 2R3 or the First United Church Memorial Fund, Swift Current, SK.
