Obituary of Lawrence (Larry) Robert Spannier
SPANNIER - Lawrence Robert (Larry), loving husband, devoted father, beloved friend, passed away suddenly on Sunday, January 29, 2006. Larry was predeceased by his mother, Ruth, father, Edward and sister, Dianne. He is survived by his loving wife, Sandra, two beautiful daughters, Kathryn and Heather, his sister, Patricia, and brother-in-law, Wes Allen (fiance Nancy Husband). He will not only be missed by his family, friends, and co-workers but also by his cat, Simba. Larry and his soul mate and love of his life, Sandra celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2004. He was a devoted father of Kathryn and Heather and watched with pride their academic, athletic and personal achievements. Larry loved carpentry, gardening and playing golf most recently at the Regina Golf Club where he served as a volunteer member of the Board. Larry had a long and distinguished career in the Saskatchewan Civil Service. Following his graduation from the University of Regina in 1977, he joined the Department of Co-operatives as a Management Advisor. In 1980 he moved to the Department of Finance where he served in a variety of positions. Over the years he assumed more prominent assignments, including Assistant Deputy Minister of the Department of Finance and Deputy Minister of Industry and Resources. In June 2005 he became Senior Vice President of Crown Investments Corporation of Saskatchewan. Larry was proud to be born and raised in Saskatchewan and was keen to participate in its development. To this end he served on a variety of business and community boards including the Canadian Light Source Inc., The Saskatchewan Entrepreneurial Foundation, The Petroleum Technology Research Centre, the Saskatchewan Trade and Export Partnership, Communities of Tomorrow, The Saskatchewan Health Information Network, The Saskatchewan Gaming Corporation and the Saskatchewan Government Fund Management Corporation. He chaired the Technical Team of the Premiers Task Force on Forest Development which was recently formed to deal with the crisis in the forest industry. Larry was a passionate supporter of the Saskatchewan Roughrider Football Club where he served as a Board Member. He also served on the Board of the 2003 Grey Cup Committee. In every case his colleagues were inspired by his good humour and positive outlook. Funeral Service will be held Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. in Christ the King R. C.
