Obituary of June Caroline Dawson

DAWSON - On Saturday, February 4, 2006, June Caroline Dawson, of Regina, passed away peacefully at the age of 76 years. June was predeceased by her parents Elise and Herman Rumpel, pioneers of the Earl Grey community, and infant sister Marlene. She is survived by her daughters Linda (Jerome) and Allana (Terry); grandchildren Lisa (Colin), Shari, and Kyle; great-granddaughter Alyssa. June was born on December 14, 1929. Her family farmed near Earl Grey and later moved to Regina. June graduated from Balfour Technical School and then from the Regina General Hospital School of Nursing. She pursued an active career in nursing and later worked for both the Alcohol Commission of Saskatchewan and the Public Service Commission. June was always interested in community affairs and active in many organizations. Dearest to her heart was her high school alumni association. In the late seventies, June became actively involved in the Alzheimer Society and served as President of the Regina Family Support Group. In the eighties, she was a member of the National Alzheimer Board of Directors and subsequently an executive member of the Alzheimer Society of Canada and a member of the National Education and Family Support Committee. Many people benefited from her empathy, dedication, patience and counsel. June's own retirement was interrupted by the devastations of Alzheimer Disease. The family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude for the compassionate care June received from the staff at the Glendalough Care Home and most recently the Santa Maria Senior Citizens Home. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2006 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue at 10:30 a.m. with Rev. Robert Leeson officiating. Interment in Regina Memorial Gardens.
