Obituary of W.B.H. (Bruce) Cooke

COOKE - On Saturday, February 11, 2006, W.B.H. (Bruce) Cooke, late of Regina, passed away suddenly at the age of 70 years. Predeceased by his parents Aleen and Louis Cooke and his brother Edgar, Bruce is survived by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Phyllis, his three children, Bob Cooke of Regina, Cherilyn Cooke of Regina, Jim (Cheryl) Cooke of Calgary, AB and his three beautiful granddaughters, Jennifer, Jaclyn and Kimberly. Also left to mourn is his sister Elizabeth Hochner of Brantford, ON. Bruce received his Ph.D in engineering while serving his country in the Canadian Forces. He was best known as a past Dean and Professor Emeritus of Engineering at the University of Regina. Bruce also owned and operated a consultant firm, Cooke Engineering Limited. Bruce was a member, and past president of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Saskatchewan and a proud alumni of the Royal Military College, class of 56. An accomplished musician, Bruce was a member of the Shriners and played bagpipes with the Shriners pipe band and the Regina Police Band, often serving as Pipe Major. Bruce was often called upon to play his bagpipes for many community organizations and events. Throughout his life, Bruce enjoyed various hobbies. He held a pilots license and was a certified SCUBA instructor. Bruce was also known for his love of animals, and thoroughly enjoyed the company of his two cats. Due to an illness in the family, the Funeral Service will be postponed. Arrangements will be made in the near future by Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina. Flowers are gratefully declined, but friends so wishing may make donations in Bruces memory to the Wa Wa Shrine Travel Fund, 2065 Hamilton Street, Regina, S4P 2E1, or the Regina Humane Society, Box 3143, Regina, S4P 3G7.
