Obituary of Gordon Ross Hills
HILLS, Gordon Ross, late of the Broadway Terrace, Regina, passed away on Monday, February 20, 2006 at the age of 81 years. Gordon was predeceased by his beloved wife and companion, Mabel on July 22, 2005, his parents, Ross and Minnie (Forsythe) Hills, brother, Flt Sgt J. Oliver Hills over Belgium during WWII, sister and brother-in-law Velma and Fred Stephenson, nephews Merle Stephenson and Leonard Hills and sister-in-law Evelyn Romich. Gordon is survived by his son Eldon R. Hills, New York, NY, USA, brother Lloyd (Temple) Hills of Regina, nephews Lyle (Jodie) Hills of Regina, Robert Stephenson of Thompson, Man., Gordon Stephenson and David (Jamie) Stephenson both of Regina, sister-in-law Ellen (Paul) Dojack of Regina, brother-in-law Elmer (Loretta) Romich of Govan and nephews Aird (Lisa) Romich of Swift Current, Gerald (Wendy) Romich of Raymore, and Darwin (Joanne) Romich of Balgonie. Gordon was born on the farm near Tuxford on May 2, 1924 and later moved with his family to the Dilke area, where he attended Kenockee School and Dilke High School. He attended Normal School in Moose Jaw and taught in country schools near Fillmore. After moving to Regina, Gordon had a long career in Social Services with both the City of Regina and the Province of Saskatchewan. Gordon served as the President of the Saskatchewan Conference Young Peoples Union and was an active member of both Knox Metropolitan and Carmichael United Church. He also received a lifetime achievement award from the Saskatchewan Division of the Canadian Cancer Society. Gordon and Mabel enjoyed many pleasures in life including dancing, card playing, traveling and the many friendships they developed through church and the United Commercial Travelers of America. A Funeral Service in celebration of Gordons life will be conducted on Thursday February 23, 2006 at 1:30 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina, the Rev. James Balfour officiating. Private interment to follow at Riverside Memorial Park. Flowers most gratefully declined.
