Obituary of Ernest Straughan Winter

WINTER - On Sunday, February 26, 2006, Ernest Straughan Winter of Regina, SK, passed away a few days before his 94th birthday. Ernie was born in Kindersley on March 11, 1912 and was raised in Saskatoon. During World War II he served in the tank corps. After the war he worked as a federal civil servant, retiring in 1973. Ernie was a member of the Legion and the Kiwanis. Over the years he was an active member of St. Lukes Anglican Church. His volunteer activities for many years centered around the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre. In his spare time he enjoyed travelling, cheering on the Roughriders, playing golf, attending symphony concerts and taking photos for family events and Wascana Rehab activities. Ernie was predeceased by his parents Frank and Nellie Winter, his wife Isabel and brother-in-law George Heighes. He is survived by his sisters, Ethel Heighes of Saskatoon and Betty (Don) Sinclair of West Vancouver, his dear friend Vicky Visser of Regina, his nieces, Peggy Heighes of Ottawa, Nancy Davies of Vernon, Barbara (Emmett) Smith and Janet (David) Jesney of Saskatoon, Joan (Bill) Nimmo of Parksville, and Beverley Sinclair of North Vancouver, as well as five great nieces and five great nephews. Memorial Service will be held Thursday, March 2, 2006 at 1:30 pm in St. Lukes Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina. In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations, in Ernies memory, to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Volunteer Fund, 2180 - 23rd Avenue, Regina S4R 8P6 or to St. Lukes Anglican Church Memorial Fund, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina SK S4S 2B8.
