Obituary of David Kenneth Mould

MOULD - David Kenneth - On Wednesday, March 29th, 2006 at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre in Regina, Saskatchewan after a courageous battle with Lou Gehrigs disease. Born in Regina on August 22, 1924, David graduated from Benson Public School and Scott Collegiate. At the age of 17, David joined the Royal Canadian Air Force, trained on Tiger Moths and went overseas to serve his country in WWII as a tail gunner with 109 Bomber Group flying Lancaster bombers. David was discharged as a Flight Lieutenant after V.E. Day and returned to Canada. On his return from the war, David attended an architectural course at University in Winnipeg and later cut timber in Ontario and British Columbia. He subsequently joined the Princess Patricias Canadian Light Infantry permanent force as a paratrooper. After serving his tour, David returned to Regina and worked as a finish carpenter at various jobs and retired as a carpenter with the RCMP having worked for Depot Division in Regina and Fort Walsh. David had an incredible mind that knew no boundaries. He was innovative and had interests in many things from zeppelins, aircraft, snowmobiles, boats and hydroplanes to traveling Canadas waterways and exploring religions. He was a one-man think tank of sorts and invented many of the concepts before they became commercialized. An avid reader, David was very spiritual and extremely well versed in Bible studies. His knowledge was limitless and he was a fascinating conversationalist on virtually any topic. After retirement, David spent his time working on various innovative mechanical and structural projects and pursuing his passion for painting. Many of his paintings were of his experiences as a Lancaster Tail Gunner during the war. Davids passion for art and the completion of his series of wartime paintings was sadly cut short when his arms became immobile due to the onset of Lou Gehrigs disease. David was predeceased by his son Duncan, his brother Geoffry and his parents James and Reta. He is survived by his younger brother Clifford (and Mae), their son Roy and daughter Dianne and family Nancy, Sara, Paul and Lisa as well as a number of nieces and nephews. A fascinating man with a fascinating mind to the end, David will be missed by all who knew him. At Davids request, there will be no funeral. A private military graveside ceremony will be held. The family would like to thank the dedicated staff of the Veterans Wing at the Wascana Hospital for all of the kindness they showed to David. Anyone wishing to honour the life of David may do so through donations to the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre, 2180 - 23rd Avenue, Regina, SK S4S 0A5.
