Obituary of Emily Irene Bower

BOWER - Emily Irene Bower passed away peacefully, at home, on April 19th, 2006. Emily was born in Young, Saskatchewan on August 24th, 1914, the eldest of five siblings born to Laughlin (Jim) and Katherine (Scrasce) McLean. Emily attended elementary and high school in Young and Normal School in Saskatoon. She taught several years in rural schools near Young and Regina. Emily was predeceased by her mother in 1936, her father in 1984 and her siblings. Emily married banker Harry (Henry) Bower on November 11th 1939 and they raised two daughters in Montreal, Moose Jaw and Regina. Emily was active in the United Church and its choir, in curling and in substitute teaching and tutoring. She learned and played bridge with a passion, and was a long-standing member of the Regina Duplicate Bridge Club. She was a master player, taught others, and was widely respected for her skill at the game. Emily was predeceased by her beloved husband in 1981. She leaves behind very good friends and a family who loved her very much: two daughters Beverly, Langley, BC and Patricia, Regina, two grandchildren, Harry (Sandra), London, U.K. and Dannielle (Brad), Langley, four great grandchildren, Kyran, Emily, Dominique, Ryan, several nieces, nephews and step-siblings. Our thanks go to our mothers devoted and long-serving caregivers Analou Soriano Costello, Sunshine Icuspit, Patricia Ann Herauf, the women from Neale Elder Support Services and to Dr. D. van der Merwe for his expert guidance and kindness. A memorial service will be held at a later date. To honor Emilys memory donations may be made to the Harry and Emily Bower Scholarship Fund at SCEP CENTRE, 3105 - 4th Avenue North, Regina, Sask., S4R 0V2.
