Obituary of John Blenkinsop

John Blenkinsop March 28, 1912 - April 26, 2006 On Wednesday, April 26, 2006, John Blenkinsop, of Regina, passed away after a short illness. Our dear and much loved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather was born at Easingwold, Yorkshire, England. He followed his dream to Saskatchewan at the age of 16 to do farm work. He served in the RCAF for five years, worked for Canadian Pacific Express for many years, and finished his career at Saskatchewan Government Transportation Agency and Swift Current Freight Lines. He was a dedicated contributor to St. James Anglican Church for more than 60 years. John was predeceased by his beloved wife of 58 years, Pat (Baynes) Blenkinsop; his parents, William and Ada (Harrison) Blenkinsop; and his brother, Mark Blenkinsop. He is survived by his loving family: daughters Laurel Boone (Ed Mullaly) and Sandra Blenkinsop; grandsons Storer and Jacob Boone; granddaughters Julie Darychuk (Allan Dlugan) and Andrea Darychuk (Dustin Swanson); step-granddaughter Sarah Mullaly; and five great-grandchildren, Caitlin and Anna Boone, Alia and Matthew Dlugan, and Aria Swanson. He is also survived by his sister, Edith Greenhalgh, his brother-in-law, Stewart Mutch, and many nephews and nieces and their families. John was a devoted husband and father whose greatest joy was playing with his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. His wise counsel, realistic and forthright manner, practical help, and cheerful outlook will be missed by all who knew him. His unflagging zest for life inspired us all. We will miss him and cherish his memory forever. A memorial service will be held at St. James Anglican Church, 1105 Empress Street, on Saturday, April 29, at 2:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to Regina Palliative Care Inc., 4101 Dewdney Avenue, Regina S4T 1A5 would be greatly appreciated.
