Obituary of William Gray Scott

Scott, William Gray (1928-2006) The gentle, gifted soul of Bill Scott departed on Sunday, May 21st after a life guided by honour, strength and compassion. Bill was born in Ottawa, and grew up in Ottawa and Toronto. He was by nature a wordsmith, artist and musician. His love of radio led him to study at Ryerson, then to hold varied positions in electronic and print media across Canada. His career included time with Canadian Press (CP), Broadcast News (BN), and Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). While working as a CBC reporter on Parliament Hill, he earned the friendship and respect of politicians of all parties, and was known for his dedication to truth and fairness. Bill was also a communications specialist for provincial governments in PEI and Saskatchewan, and assisted various community and professional organizations. In addition, he worked with Radio Trinidad for two years. He settled in Regina, Saskatchewan in 1976, where he spent the last 30 years. Bill loved life, and excelled at everything he touched including the written and spoken work, music, art, photography and golf, and was known for his sense of humour and skills as a storyteller. His greatest love was for his family. He leaves a legacy of love, laughter, music and memories to his wife (and best friend for 30 years) Linda Kilmister; five children and two grandchildren: daughters Judith (son Emile), Sarah (daughter Claudia), and Rachel, sons Matthew and Duff, their families and extended families in Canada and overseas; three sisters (Judy, Barbara and Lorna) and their families; Lois (mother of Duff and Judith), other relatives, and Lindas family members (who adopted him as their own). Bill was predeceased by his parents (William and Alice), his sister Janet, and Josalys (mother of Sarah, Rachel and Matthew). Bill specified no long obituary and we are honouring his request. Those who knew him professionally and personally know the character of the man, and the principles by which he lived. We are also respecting his request for no memorial service. Honour his memory in your own way. "When you see a tree that has endured, you know its roots run deep.
