Obituary of George Markel

MARKEL - George completed his lifes journey on Monday, May 29, 2006, just 22 days shy of his 96th birthday. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew and Annie Markel; his wife of almost 40 years, Katherine in 1972; one infant daughter Isabel; one son-in-law Gordon Johnson; five brothers: Andrew, John, Rudolph, Carl and Joseph; and one sister Margaret Erhardt. He will be sadly missed by his children and leaves to mourn: Evelyne Johnson, Art (Marg) Markel, Hilda (Art) Riopel, Alvina (Gordon) Toderan, Ken Markel, and Dolores (Mike) Fodey; eighteen grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; brothers Gus and William; numerous nieces and nephews; and special friend Muriel Costea, of Medicine Hat. The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff at Parkside Extendicare for their kind and gentle care and for always making him feel special. A Memorial Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 2, 2006 at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Interment will take place at Riverside Memorial Park Cemetery.
