Obituary of Helen Betty Eloise Thatcher

THATCHER - Helen Betty (nee Hughes) passed away on June 20th, 2006. Betty was born in Sidewood, SK, in 1926. She was the daughter of Jack and Myrtle Hughes. Betty was the second youngest in a family of eight children. She is predeceased by two sisters Rossie (Bert) Crowe, Tressa (Doug) Brunskill, and two brothers, Jack (Annette) Hughes and Hilton (Ethel) Hughes, brother- in-laws Ross (Peggy) and Clarke (Marjorie) Thatcher. She was also predeceased by her first husband, David Bond, and his only sister, Joyce Bond. Betty is survived by her beloved husband Ron of 46 years, son Bill [Jan] Thatcher and daughter Joyce [Pat] Dudley. Betty was blessed with six grandsons [Matthew, Michael, Mitchell, Mark, Kyle, and Kevin]. Betty was a very loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She devoted her life to her family, and will be greatly missed. Betty leaves behind three sisters: Bernice (Alec) Bayne of San Diego, CA, Dora (Roy) Morris of Edmonton, AB, and Mavis (Jim) Fairburn of Penticton, BC. She also leaves sister-in-law, Joan (Don) Dowsley, Salt Spring, B.C., and Ruth Thatcher, Edmonton, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Before her marriage, Betty worked at CKCK-TV, a job she enjoyed, and where she met many lifelong friends. Betty very much enjoyed her home, especially the summer gatherings in her backyard. She enjoyed entertaining and spending time with family, friends, and neighbours. Betty was also a longtime member of St. Luke's Anglican Church. Her faith was very important to her. Betty's last years were made difficult by a variety of illnesses that interfered with her normal enjoyment of life. She is now at peace and free of pain. A Funeral Service will be held at St. Luke's Anglican Church, 3233 Argyle Road, Regina, at 1:30 pm, Thursday June 22nd. Interment at Riverside Memorial Park. A special thank-you to Dr. Stewart McMillan and his staff and the caregivers at Elmview Extendicare for their compassion during her illness. Also, a thank-you to her many friends who gave her strength through their visits and prayers. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those that wish may donate to the Canadian Cancer Society, 1910 McIntyre St., Regina S4P 2R3 or St. Luke's Anglican Church.
