Obituary of Stephen Peter Gilavish

STEPHEN PETER GILAVISH Born in Dysart, Saskatchewan on August 27, 1912 passed away on Friday, July 14, 2006. He is predeceased by his loving wife Theresa, his parents Peter and Mary Gilavish, his sisters Ann Kuzina and Elaine Rebb. Stephen is survived by his son Gerald (Helen), grand-daughter Mary-Lynne (Michael) Stepan, great grand-daughters Rebecca and Carrie-Anne and numerous nieces and nephews. Stephen completed his high school and Normal School training in Regina. After one day of teaching he went to work for Cockshutt Farm Equipment, 17 years later he took over Regina Fuel on Dewdney Avenue. In the 1960s he purchased Queen City Coal shortly after he also became the agent for Tip Top Rubber Products and relocated his office to the corner of Broad Street and Dewdney Avenue where he continued working until his retirement in 1975. He was an active member of: the United Commercial Travellers for over 60 years, the Canadian Order of Foresters and the Elks. He was a pitcher on a local softball team in his youth, later bowling and curling became his favourite sporting activities; in addition he was a season ticket holder of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and the Regina Pats. Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, July 20, 2006 at 11:00 a.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue, Regina with the Reverend Claude Schroeder officiating. Interment in Riverside Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Hospitals of Regina Foundation. The family would like to thank Parkside Extendicare for their excellent, loving care of Stephen for the last three years.
