Obituary of Rafe Gordon Chadwick

CHADWICK, Rafe - Dr. Rafe Chadwick, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away peacefully with family beside him, at Santa Maria Nursing Home on July 27, 2006 at the age of 86. He was predeceased by his parents, Gladys and Herbert, brother, Doug and sister, Enid Chinn. He is survived by his loving wife, Vera Chadwick and five children, Donna Gravelle (Marcel Gravelle), Brenda Hendrickson (Jae Hendrickson), Gordon Chadwick (Diane Chadwick), Paul Chadwick, Joy Chadwick (Kelly Kerr) as well as nine grandchildren; Shandelle Conrad, Bryce Conrad, Pamela Gravelle, Chad Gravelle, Tricia Chadwick, Kyla Chadwick, Devin Chadwick, Taylor Chadwick, Kelsey Chadwick; seven step-grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and his sister, Barbara Jacques (John Jacques). Rafe was born in Raymore Saskatchewan on May 2, 1920. He attended primary and high school in Regina. Rafe enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940. He served on the HCMS Athabascan, and sustained injuries while in service with a prolonged hospitalization. He was discharged in November of 1944. Rafe enrolled in the Canadian Memorial Chiropractic College (CMCC) in the fall of 1945. While in college, he met his life-long partner, Vera Swain. They were married in 1947. Following graduation at CMCC in 1949, Rafe returned to practice in Regina. He was a highly recognized chiropractor and practiced for 44 years. Rafe served in numerous capacities with the Chiropractors Association of Saskatchewan (CAS), including a term as president. He was recognized for his outstanding contributions to Chiropractic, by receiving Life Time Member awards to both the CAS and CMCC. Rafe was very active in the Regina community as a founding member and president of the Regina Rams Football Club. Rafe served on the executive board of the Saskatchewan Roughriders and was a loyal season ticket holder for 49 years. He was presented a Life Time Membership to the King Hiram Lodge in 2006. Rafe was also a charter member and director of the Wascana Kiwanis Club. He served on the Wascana Centre Authority Board and the University of Regina Senate. Rafe and Vera loved spending time with their family and friends at the cabin on Katepwa Lake where he enjoyed gardening, golfing and watching beautiful sunsets. He was dearly loved by family and friends and will be missed. Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. at Christ the King Church, 3239 Garnet Street with Rev. Anthony F.
