Obituary of Sylvia Rau

RAU, Sylvia Eva (nee Neumann) - beloved wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully with family at her bedside, at the Pasqua Hospital on July 28, 2006 at the age of 74. She was predeceased by her father, Franz (1964) and her mother, Francesca (1998), brother Ernest and sister Emma Dietrich (2005). She is survived by her loving husband, Konrad and four children, Irene Rau (Don Johnson), Conrad Rau Jr. (Arlene Pyle), Sandi Roach (Bill), and Kelly Rau as well as four grandchildren; Tara Lawrence, William Roach, Jeffery Rau, Brittany Roach; four nieces and three nephews and two brothers, Gordon Neumann and Werner Neumann (Kay). Sylvia was born in Chernowitz, Bukovina, Romania on January 1, 1932. She spent most of her childhood years moving with her family around various European refugee camps. The family relocated from Bukovina to Germany as many other Bukovinans did in 1940. While living in Germany, she met her life partner, Konrad, and they married in 1952. Together they made the leap to start a family and a new life in Canada in 1953. In addition to her primary role of raising four wonderful and loving children and babysitting two of her grandbabies, Sylvia also worked at various points in her life as a waitress, banquet server and expert seamstress. She was a very strong woman who was not only a cancer survivor but also a stroke survivor. Sylvia and Konrad enjoyed spending time in their backyard in the summers tending their flower garden and tomato plants. The highlight of her week was when her family gathered on Sunday afternoon for coffee to visit with her. She was dearly loved by her family and will be missed by all who knew her. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, August 2, 2006 at 7:00 p.m. at Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Ave. and the funeral mass will be held on Thursday, August 3, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at Holy Child Roman Catholic Church, 2636 - 7th Ave. E. with Rev.
