Obituary of Grace Catherine Atherton

ATHERTON - Grace Atherton (nee Linley), born December 20, 1914 in Yellow Grass, passed away suddenly on Tuesday, March 8, 2005 in Regina at the age of 90. Grace is predeceased by her husband Ernest Atherton (1957), her son Fred Atherton (2004), two brothers and two sisters. She will be sadly missed and remembered always by her daughter Lynne and Paul Milnes, granddaughters Kamini and Kaarina, Ontario, Tai and Mia Goldman ,Vancouver and niece Audrey and Fred Bennett and sister-in-law Joan Linley, Weyburn; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Grace served in the Womens Army Corp from 1941 - 1943 where she quickly rose to the rank of Lieutenant and continued serving with the Regina Militia for many years. She was a long-time member of the Regina Lions Junior Band organization. As a single parent Grace went to work for the Provincial Government where she remained for 23 years. Always independent, hardworking, adventurous, fun loving, physically active, a devoted mother and friend, she helped and supported her family, friends and community with generosity, unselfishness and good humour. We wish to thank Wildrose Personal Care Home for their wonderful care and support. Flowers are gratefully declined. Friends so wishing may make donations to the Regina Symphony Orchestra. A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, March 14 at 2:30 p.m. in Speers Funeral Chapel, 2136 College Avenue. Condolences to the family may be emailed to reception@speersfuneralchapel.com
